Our Church
WHERE WE’VE BEEN AND WHERE WE’RE GOING!
St. Mark’s United Methodist Church stands as a testimony to the movement of the Holy Spirit that occurred within First United Methodist Church here in Ocala. The dream began in 1948 and by early 1950 St. Mark's was a chartered United Methodist Church. Our charter was held open until April 4, 1950. 81 citizens of the kingdom are listed on our charter. The original sanctuary that served for years as our fellowship hall was destroyed by fire on March 11, 2000. Our beautiful new Family Life Center stands as testimony to the faith and dedication of the members of St. Mark's. Our Sanctuary was constructed in 1958.

Typical of many churches, St. Mark's has seen her days of growth and change and her days of doldrums. Beginning with 81 charter members, she has seen an active membership as high as 600 and seen attendance drop to around 100. St. Mark's’ initial ministry was to the young families living in the neighborhood. As the neighborhood went through a time of transition, our ministry focused on retires moving south. Again we find ourselves in a time of transition ministering to younger families as well as seniors. Through all of the changes, one thing remained constant. St. Mark's is a family oriented, friendly church. Welcoming the new comer in the name of Jesus Christ.

St. Mark's strives to be a church that is involved in our community. Our beautiful facility stands as testimony to God’s love and in response to that love we offer it to our community. It is our goal that our building be in use every day of the week. Among the groups using our facilities are Alcoholics Anonymous, Narcotics Anonymous, Alanon, Alateen, Church Without Walls, IPN, Girl Scouts, the Country Quilters, Slim and Trim, the Isaiah Foundation of Marion County and others.
